About EIDBI
What are EIDBI services?
EIDBI, Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention, is Minnesota’s medical assistance benefit that funds a specific set of services for children with autism spectrum disorder or a related condition. It is not one therapy. It is a coordinated package that starts with an evaluation and continues through active treatment.
Minnesota’s Department of Human Services defines the covered EIDBI services as the CMDE evaluation, coordinated care conferences, family and caregiver training and counseling, intervention using approved treatment modalities such as ABA, individual treatment plan development and progress monitoring, and observation and direction of treatment.

EIDBI vs ABA: what’s the difference?
EIDBI is the funding program. ABA is the most common therapy delivered under it. Understanding EIDBI vs ABA is often the first thing that clears up confusion for new families. Families often use the two terms interchangeably, but they answer different questions.

DHS also recognizes other approved treatment modalities alongside ABA, such as the Early Start Denver Model and DIR/Floortime. If your child’s CMDE recommends a different modality, ask us directly; we can tell you honestly whether it’s part of our current program mix.
